#Germany’s Scholz calls for calm after #Iranian attack on #Israel.

German Chancellor #OlafScholz says it is important that Iran’s attack on Israel does not cause the current conflict in the Middle East to escalate, adding he is under the impression that this had been understood by the affected parties.

“For us, it is important that this moment is now also used for further de-escalation and that Israel … does not respond with a massive attack of its own,” Scholz said in Brussels.

Israel has said it will respond to the weekend drone and missile barrage launched by Iran on Israeli territory, but the US, Israel’s key ally, said it will not participate in a counterstrike on Iran.
